Kesklinn's history dates back to the 13th century when Danish King Valdemar II's forces established Toompea Castle. The Old Town has preserved its medieval streets, Hanseatic merchant houses, and Gothic churches. In the 20th century, the center expanded significantly with Art Nouveau buildings in Kadriorg and Soviet-era constructions.
