Võru County is located in southeastern Estonia and is known for the Haanja Upland, Suur Munamägi (Estonia's highest point), and the unique Võro language and culture. History & Character
Võru town was founded in 1784 by order of Catherine II, but the area has been inhabited for thousands of years. Võrumaa is part of the historic Ugandi ancient county. The Seto culture in the border areas is a unique phenomenon. The Võro language, one of the South Estonian languages, has survived and is being actively revived.
