North Tallinn is Tallinn's fastest-developing district, combining historical working-class neighborhoods with contemporary urban culture. Kalamaja, Pelgulinn, and Kopli have become favorites among young families and creative professionals. The seaside location and bohemian atmosphere create a unique living environment.
Historia ja luonne
North Tallinn developed as an industrial district in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Kalamaja got its name from the fishermen who lived there. The wooden architecture dates mainly from the 1920s-1930s. After independence was restored, the area has undergone significant transformation while preserving its authentic character.
