Lääne-Viru County is situated on Estonia's northern coast and is rich in both history and nature. The county seat Rakvere is one of Estonia's oldest towns with its Order Castle and vibrant cultural life. The area encompasses beautiful coastal and Pandivere Upland landscapes along with many well-preserved manors.
Historia ja luonne
Lääne-Viru County has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Rakvere Castle was first mentioned in 1226. The area was under Livonian Order, Danish, and Swedish rule. Manor culture has left a deep imprint on the landscape — Palmse, Sagadi, and Vihula manors are outstanding examples.
